How do you feel about Actuate security in internet, is it completely secure?

RV:

I can say yes or no. Yes,because within the firewall there is no security threat if we pass actuate login information from the other box to the actuate box.

No, because if we access actuate report server directly, we have to use encryption and decryption mechanism to process user login information. In the current world we need to use powerful encryption techniques to secure user information.

SM: 

Is it a good idea to write user information in a properiotary database for easy use?

RV:

RV: Yes, because we can manage actuate user information more efficiently. It is easy to manage if we maintain actuate user information in the properitory database.Generally, we integrate actuate application to some other application so it is flexible if we update actuate user information using open languages like sql.

SM:

Within the organization - is it well protected by report server security?

RV:

yes.

SM:

 Is it easy to implement report server for the users?

RV: 

User's point of view, report server's security is transparent if we implement single sign on otherwise it is a hectic procedure to get into actuate report server.

SM:

 From the developer point of view, is the security in report server & report cast is easily implementable?

RV:

 yes, but you should know reportcast and report server very well interms of how it communicates with the outside world. 

SM: 

Is the integration to other application is easy, which other method could have been easier?

RV:

 This depends on how you want to integrate actuate into your application. You can implement actute integration using the following methods:

1. Actuate SDK - This takes lot of development time. You need a developer who has c++ and other application language knowledge. Even though it takes lot of time, it gives more control on the actuate application.

2. Actuate reportcast - Using the actuate reportcast, we can plugin actuate application with other application effortlessly. you can use actuate urls to interact with the report server. 

In the case of Integration with other applications,it is very easy because you can plugin actuate with any internet/intranet based application.

SM: 

Can we have any other kind of integration other than C++ ? Does Actuate 6 provide any new feature in this regard ?

RV: 

Until actuate 5.x, I do not think we have other kind of integration except c++ implementation. In actuate 6.0, they came up with the information delivery API that allows developers to integrate actuate application using web services.
